What do you do with your license? are you a circuit plodder? or a far-flying explorer?

At the moment I'm a circuit basher with the occaisional round trip to Grafham water! Being early on in my flying career I'm still working on nailing stuff like landings (you know, the fairly important stuff!) Laughing and still in the 150/152's

Perhaps this year I'll start travelling away from the comfort of henlow!

I have 2 particular favourite routes for practicing stuff.

1) Henlow – (Via Duxford) to Newmarket - (Via the Lakenheath MATZ) to Wisbech – Conington (for a brew) and back. Takes about an hour and gives me practice talking with something other than ground stations.
Change the trip and land at Duxford for some FISO airfield practice.

2) Go to Panshanger (for a brew), via the Luton Zone. They are the easiest people to talk to and very helpful to Henlow traffic.

Go to North Weald, its a free landing too. There are war birds based there including spitfire, hurricane, mustang, curtiss p140 etc. Also got some jets such as hawk (flown by ppl pilots i believe) and vampire as well as all the other normal stuff. There is a huge hard runway and excellent restaurant and also a museum on the far side. Dont be put off by the stanstead atz mandatory transponder zone which is very simple. Call Farnborough radar 132.80 when near buntingford area and they will give you a sqwark to use, then you can fly straight in under the 1500 ft standstead zone and then call up north weald, also farnborough will talk to you if there any problems or you are doing something wrong. I can recommend this airfield as a great place to go, i usually see a warbird or something interesting in the circuit if it is a nice day. Takes 25 mins ish each way direct chock to chock. You could stop off at panshanger on the way back if you wanted. I have done this several times, with free landing vouchers from pilot mag which crop up often for panshanger.

Give North Weald a go definitely!
